Injuries
Trevor Williams60-Day-IL
Williams (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
More detail
Williams is finally ready to pitch in games again following last July's internal brace procedure on his right elbow. The veteran right-hander will likely need most, if not all, of the allotted 30 days a pitcher receives on a rehab assignment, but should be ready to rejoin the Nationals' active roster sometime in July.
Jake Irvin15-Day-IL
Irvin (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Kyle Williams of TheBanner.com reports.
More detail
It will be the first time the righty hurler has thrown off the mound since he was shelved by a right shoulder strain in late May. Irvin has found more swings and misses this season for the Nationals with 58 strikeouts over 51.2 innings, but he's posted a 5.23 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He will likely need at least one rehab start before rejoining the Nationals' active roster.
DJ Herz60-Day-IL
Herz (elbow) was diagnosed Monday with a left flexor strain, Kyle Williams of TheBanner.com reports.
More detail
It's a significant setback for Herz, who has been working his way back from April 2025 Tommy John surgery. The left-hander posted a 1.17 ERA, 0.52 WHIP and 11:0 K:BB in 7.2 innings covering his first three rehab starts, potentially setting him up for activation around the All-Star break. After suffering the flexor strain, however, Herz will be out indefinitely.
Max Kranick60-Day-IL
Kranick (elbow) began a rehab assignment with Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday, striking out two over 1.2 perfect innings.
More detail
It was the first game appearance in more than a year for Kranick, who was signed by the Nationals in May as he continued his rehab from flexor tendon surgery. The right-hander will need several more rehab outings before Washington considers adding him to its bullpen.
Jarlin SusanaDay-To-Day
Susana threw from a mound this week for the first time since undergoing lat surgery last September, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
More detail
The Nationals' pitching prospect still has a long way to go in his recovery, however. Susana will continuing his throwing progression at the team's spring training complex in Florida, and as yet there's no target date for him to return to game action.
Ken Waldichuk60-Day-IL
Waldichuk (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure April 21 and is hopeful to return to game action at some point early in the 2027 season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
More detail
Waldichuk posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 9.1 innings over his five relief appearances with Washington before landing on the injured list April 13 after suffering a left forearm injury. The southpaw received a couple of medical opinions in the week following the injury and ultimately decided to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in just under two years, after he previously had the procedure in May 2024. Waldichuk also underwent a flexor tendon repair as part of the operation.

Josiah Gray60-Day-IL
Gray (elbow) has resumed a throwing program, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
More detail
It's the first bit of throwing the right-hander has done since he was diagnosed with a right flexor strain in late March. He will be brought along slowly in his rehab before being evaluated for a potential return to the Nationals' rotation.
Tyler BaumDay-To-Day
Baum has not pitched this year due an undisclosed injury.
More detail
A second-round pick in 2019, Baum logged a 4.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 30.2 innings after getting drafted, but it appears he may go two full seasons without getting into official games.
Travis SykoraDay-To-Day
Sykora will undergo a UCL reconstruction on his right elbow in two weeks, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
More detail
Sykora landed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Harrisburg earlier this month with what had been referred to as triceps soreness, but subsequent testing revealed the need for a UCL repair. It's a huge blow to the Nationals and one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, as Sykora could be sidelined until 2027. The 21-year-old holds a 1.91 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 74:17 K:BB through 42.1 innings in the minors this season.
