Just over 13 months after undergoing UCL internal brace surgery as well as a flexor tendon repair operation, Brito has reached the final step in his lengthy recovery process. Despite his strong showing in his first rehab outing in Arizona, Brito is likely to be kept on assignment for the entirety of his allotted 30-day window, as he'll require multiple starts to build his pitch count and hone his command and control coming off surgery. Though the Padres are letting Brito get stretched out for a rotation role, he has a minor-league option remaining and could be sent to Triple-A El Paso rather than joining the big club once he's activated from the 60-day injured list.

Marquez surrendered seven runs over five innings in his most recent start Friday against the White Sox and will now spend at least the next couple weeks on the IL. Griffin Canning (Achilles) was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move and will take Marquez's spot in the rotation beginning with Sunday's series finale versus Chicago.

Hunt signed a minor-league pact with San Diego in December and has been taking part in big-league camp, though he hasn't seen action in any spring games. Darvish's placement on the restricted list frees up significant payroll for the Padres as they don't have to pay a salary to the veteran right-hander for as long as he's sidelined, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com. Darvish will miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing UCL repair surgery on his right elbow in November, and while he has mulled over retirement, a formal decision has yet to be made by the 39-year-old.

Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Sports Association, Stammen believes that Pivetta is looking at "weeks, maybe months" of rehab and rest. That kind of timeline indicates that Pivetta will be out of action until the summer, potentially through the All-Star break in mid-July. Matt Waldron (lower body) is slated to take Pivetta's spot in the rotation later this week once the former is activated from the 15-day IL.
