Altuve was forced to depart Tuesday's contest after being hit on the left foot by a pitch. With a team off day looming Thursday, Altuve can rest for two days before aiming to return to the lineup Friday versus the Mariners when the Astros begin a homestand. Nick Allen will fill in at second base Wednesday.

Correa was given the green light to swing a bat nearly one week ago, and he's since been able to progress to tee work. It remains to be seen whether he'll be able to return before the end of the season after undergoing ankle surgery in May, but a timeline should come into focus as he continues to ramp up baseball activities.

Burrows tossed 55 pitches over three innings at Houston's complex Saturday, and as previously reported, he'll make his next appearance at Triple-A. He figures to need at least a few rehab starts for Sugar Land, and he may remain in the minors once deemed healthy, as the Astros had optioned him to Triple-A Sugar Land on July 7 before later placing him on the injured list, which nullified the demotion.

Per MLB.com, Matthews has been cleared to field grounders and hit on the field, but he has yet to resume running at full speed since landing on the injured list July 17 due to a left knee sprain. Before going down with the injury, Matthews had made six starts in center field over a seven-game stretch, but he'll be in search of playing time elsewhere once he returns after Houston acquired Daulton Varsho from Toronto on Monday.

Walter is one of three Astros starters in Florida rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, though Hayden Wesneski (elbow) and Ronel Blanco (elbow) are further along in their programs after undergoing procedures in May and June of last year, respectively. Both Wesneski and Blanco will have chances at returning from the 60-day injured list late in the season, but since he had his surgery Sept. 23, 2025, Walter isn't a realistic candidate to pitch until 2027. Walter's main focus will be building up toward facing live hitters by the end of the season with the aim of entering spring training with few restrictions, if any.

It certainly wasn't the result Peguero was looking for, but he could be a bit rusty given that it was his first game appearance since late May. The righty reliever is working his way back from a strained hamstring and will need a few more rehab outings before rejoining the Giants' bullpen.

Gage landed on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow strain July 4 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on Aug. 2. The southpaw will continue building up in hopes of rejoining the Giants' bullpen before the end of the season. In 27.1 innings on the campaign, Gage owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 22:17 K:BB.

Susac was diagnosed with a fractured left patella earlier in the day Monday and is unlikely to return this season. Zach Morgan had his contract selected from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

Mayer landed on the injured list in late June due to a stress reaction in his left forearm. He has since been traded from Boston to San Francisco and now seems to be on the verge of making his organizational debut following multiple weeks of hitting and fielding drills. Because he's been on the shelf for more than a month, he'll likely require a handful of reps in the minors before being cleared to play his first game as a Giant.

Chapman will go under the knife to address a hernia that he has been playing through for most of the season. The timing of the procedure will cause him to miss the remainder of the year, so the 33-year-old will close the book on a disappointing 2026 campaign after slashing .235/.324/.368 with seven homers, 42 RBI and 35 runs scored across 352 plate appearances. Christian Koss figures to serve as San Francisco's primary third baseman the rest of the way.

Placed on shelf May 30 after experiencing plantar fasciitis in his left foot, Bader worsened the injury when he was involved in a scooter accident last weekend. According to Vitello, the Giants were already anticipating Bader to miss the remainder of the season before his accident, though the outfielder's recovery timeline could be extended as a result of the setback. Bader underwent a follow-up MRI on his foot earlier in the week but the Giants haven't provided any details regarding to what extent the scooter accident worsened his injury. The 32-year-old will be heading into the second season of a two-year, $20.5 million deal in 2027 after finishing his inaugural campaign in San Francisco with a .170/.198/.358 slash line to go with five home runs, 14 RBI and 10 runs over 30 games.

The injury may have cropped up during Friday's game against the Padres, when he entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter for Bryce Eldridge. Rodriguez will be sidelined until at least mid-August, and in a corresponding move, the Giants recalled Nate Furman from Triple-A Sacramento.

The Giants said that Schmitt could be ready to return in roughly 6-to-8 weeks, but with San Francisco sitting at 47-62 — well out of contention for a playoff spot — the team likely won't be in any rush to bring him back and could opt to keep him out until 2027. Either way, he's expected to have a normal offseason and will be ready for the start of spring training.

McDonald was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right elbow Friday, and after seeking out a second opinion, he will opt to go under the knife to address the issue. The procedure will end his season early and likely rule him out for most, if not all, of 2027 as well. He'll close the book on 2026 after logging a 5.12 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 70.1 innings across 14 starts.

Wick's move to the 60-day IL was fully expected, as San Francisco signed him earlier this weekend with the knowledge that the right-hander would miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in November. The 33-year-old's contract includes a club option for 2027, so the Giants will have the ability to closely monitor his rehab program in the months to come before deciding whether to retain him this winter. Wick hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 but was one of the top relievers in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball this past season, when he turned in a 1.13 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 58:13 K:BB over 47.2 innings.

Birdsong was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in mid-March and elected to go under the knife. The right-hander will miss the entirety of the 2026 campaign and likely at least the first couple months of 2027.

The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Arraez, whose signing was officially announced Tuesday. Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last September and will miss the entire 2026 season.

Butto has already been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery Saturday to repair an artery in his arm, so moving to 60-day IL has no impact on his timeline. He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to Eric Haase, who was selected from Triple-A Sacramento to replace Daniel Susac (elbow) on the active roster.
