The 22-year-old was ultimately limited to just one preseason appearance due to his injury, and it's not yet clear whether the lower-body issue will impact his availability for Tuesday's Opening Night matchup against the Rangers.

McAvoy is set to serve a six-game suspension to begin the year after slashing the Sabres' Zach Benson during the Bruins' first-round series loss last season. While the right-shot defenseman's draft stock may have dipped ever so slightly because of the suspension, fantasy managers should keep in mind that McAvoy is coming off a career-best year (11 goals, 61 points in 69 regular-season games), so don't let him fall too far in upcoming drafts. The 28-year-old is eligible to make his 2026-27 debut Oct. 13 in San Jose.

Ovechkin fully participated in Thursday's practice session and appears to be trending in the right direction, but head coach Spencer Carbery said Thursday that it isn't essential for the 41-year-old to play in the preseason in order to be ready for Opening Night. The Capitals will exercise caution with Ovechkin as the preseason draws to a close, but Carbery said Friday that he expects Ovechkin to be available for the team's Opening Night matchup against Carolina on Oct. 2.
