Injuries
Gabe SpeierDay-To-Day
Speier was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Yankees due to back discomfort, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
More detail
Speier returned from his two-game suspension Tuesday, but back issues prevented him from getting into the game. It's unclear whether his injury is severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list, but the Mariners will likely monitor his status closely over the next couple of days.
Josh NaylorDay-To-Day
Naylor is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Yankees.
More detail
With southpaw Ryan Weathers toeing the slab for the Yankees, the left-handed hitting Naylor will sit out of Tuesday's series opener. Weston Wilson will start at first base and bat eighth for Seattle.
Matt Brash15-Day-IL
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Saturday that Brash (lat) is "looming" closer to throwing a bullpen session, MLB.com reports.
More detail
On the shelf since June 10 due to a Grade 1 right lat strain, Brash was able to begin a throwing progression a few weeks ago and has thus far been limited to playing catch. Brash has been gradually increasing the distance of his throwing without any apparent issues, so he looks poised to take the next step in his recovery program by getting back on a mound. Brash appears to be trending toward a late-August return from the 15-day injured list.
Cooper Criswell60-Day-IL
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said July 31 that Criswell (shoulder) has resumed a throwing progression, MLB.com reports.
More detail
Hollander didn't go into many specifics regarding where Criswell stood in his throwing progression beyond noting that he was about a week behind fellow reliever Matt Brash (lat), who had yet to resume throwing off a mound as of the July 31 update. With that in mind, Criswell looks like he's still limited to playing catch for the time being, so his return from the injured list wouldn't appear to be imminent. Criswell went on the shelf June 9 after being diagnosed with a right shoulder strain.
J.P. Crawford10-Day-IL
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said July 31 that Crawford is expected to be "a couple weeks down" after requiring an injection to relieve inflammation in his left wrist, MLB.com reports.
More detail
Crawford was expected to rest for 3-to-5 days following the injection, so he may have already started up the process of ramping back up. The veteran infielder is eligible to return from the injured list Sunday, but he looks like he'll need more time to complete a full range of baseball activities before the Mariners bring him back from the shelf. Brendan Donovan returned from the IL on Tuesday and has settled in as the Mariners' primary third baseman, so Crawford could be headed for a utility role once he's activated.
Carlos Vargas60-Day-IL
Vargas (lat) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A Everett on Saturday night, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
More detail
Vargas has been sidelined due to a right lat strain since late March. The right-hander suffered a setback about a month later that caused him to pause his throwing progression, but he's since been able to work his way back to the point of taking part in minor-league games. Given the length of his absence, Vargas will likely need to make multiple rehab appearances before he's ready to be activated.
Cole Wilcox15-Day-IL
Wilcox left Thursday's game versus the Tigers due to left oblique tightness.
More detail
Wilcox came on in relief with one out in the top of the seventh. He didn't inherit any runners, but he gave up three earned runs on a home run after allowing two singles. He was able to end the inning himself. With left oblique tightness, it can be expected that the right-hander will land on the injured list.
Luke Raley10-Day-IL
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that Raley is expected to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a left forearm strain, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
More detail
Per MLB.com, Raley had been dealing with discomfort in his forearm/elbow for multiple weeks before the Mariners elected to place him on the injured list Saturday. The Mariners are still deciding on a treatment plan for Raley, with surgery seemingly not being ruled out. A right-handed thrower, Raley won't be affected by the injury in the field, but since he bats from the left side, he'll require a lengthy recovery even if he's able to avoid surgery and instead treats the injury with rest and rehab. Raley's injury was likely a major factor in the Mariners' acquisition Monday of Taylor Ward, who served as a designated hitter in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers but is expected to serve as Raley's primary replacement in right field.
Will Wilson60-Day-IL
Wilson (thumb) has gone 3-for-9 with two RBI and a 1:2 BB:K in his first three rehab games between High-A Everett and Triple-A Tacoma.
More detail
Wilson began his rehab assignment with Everett last Friday and moved up to Tacoma on Tuesday. He's been shelved since early May with a fractured left thumb and could need a few more rehab games before the Mariners consider returning him to their active roster.
Logan Evans60-Day-IL
The Mariners placed Evans (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Monday.
More detail
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Josh Simpson, who was acquired via trade with the Marlins on Monday. Evans will miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery with an internal brace in January.

Injuries
Kervin Castro15-Day-IL
The Yankees placed Castro on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Monday, with right elbow neuritis.
More detail
In a corresponding move Tuesday, the Yankees recalled Bradley Hanner from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Castro had made three appearances since getting recalled Aug. 3. In that stretch, he allowed no runs on one hit and a 4:2 K:BB across 3.2 innings.
Carlos Rodon15-Day-IL
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in an appearance on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast by Jomboy Media that Rodon (elbow) will make another rehab start Thursday or Friday.
More detail
Rodon was touched up for three runs on three hits and two walks over 2.2 innings in his first rehab outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. He threw 46 pitches in the outing, so Rodon needs to get stretched out more before rejoining the Yankees rotation. The veteran left-hander is working his way back from elbow inflammation.
Cody Bellinger10-Day-IL
Bellinger (hamstring) took live batting practice Wednesday for the first time since landing on the injured list July 26, MLB.com reports.
More detail
Bellinger has also been able to do some running and throwing as part of his ramp-up process but his timeline to return from the IL remains unchanged. Shortly after Bellinger was placed on the shelf due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, manager Aaron Boone said that the reigning All-Star Game MVP would miss approximately 4-to-6 weeks. The short end of that timeframe would give Bellinger a chance to return to action for the Yankees at some point in late August.
Giancarlo Stanton10-Day-IL
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that Stanton (calf) "started the introduction to [running] some bases," MLB.com reports.
More detail
In addition to taking live batting practice, Stanton had already been doing some running in the outfield. His ability to begin a baserunning progression represents another step forward as he works his way back from a right calf strain, which has kept him on the shelf since April 28. The Yankees remain optimistic that Stanton will be activated from the injured list before the end of August, but a clearer target date for his return likely won't come into focus until he heads out on a rehab assignment.
Clarke Schmidt60-Day-IL
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Schmidt (elbow) has resumed playing catch without issue and should get back on a mound in the "next couple days," Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
More detail
Working his way back from July 2025 internal brace surgery, Schmidt threw two innings of live batting practice Tuesday but wasn't able to cover a third inning as planned when his forearm cramped up on him. Fortunately for Schmidt, he appears to have steered clear of any sort of major setback, given that he was cleared to start playing catch after a few days of rest. Assuming he's able to make it through his next bullpen session without issue, Schmidt could be ready to face live hitters again by the end of the week.
Aaron Judge60-Day-IL
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Judge (rib) has been cleared to begin light activities, which includes outdoor running and upper-body resistance work, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
More detail
Though Judge hasn't been given the green light to take part in baseball activities, a return to light conditioning and strength work still amounts to a major step forward in his recovery process from a stress fracture of the first rib on the right side. The Yankees remain optimistic that Judge will be back from the 60-day injured list at some point later this season, but a more precise timeline for his return won't come into focus until he's further along in his rehab program. Judge has been on the shelf since June 5 due to the injury.
